If you are using the Microsoft Edge browser and have recently tried to Save or Rename a new report in IBM Cognos Analytics only to find the name field Blinking, Losing focus, or Disappearing entirely, you aren't alone.
A recent Windows update for Microsoft Edge (March 2026) changed how the browser handles "focus" on unsaved items. Essentially, Edge’s security layers now occasionally interfere with the pop-up dialogs Cognos uses, treating the naming field as a potential security risk or a tracker.
The fix:
- Open Edge Settings: Go to
Settings > Privacy, search, and services.
- Set to Balanced: Under Tracking prevention, ensure it is set to Balanced (not Strict).
- Add an Exception:
- Click Exceptions > Add a site.
- Enter your Cognos URL with a wildcard:
[*.]yourcompany.com
- Click Add.
Because a new report doesn't have a unique ID yet, the latest Edge update treats the "Save As" box as a security risk. Adding this exception tells the browser to trust these "unsaved" interactions and stops it from "hijacking" the focus of your text fields.
Restart your browser after applying these steps to ensure the fix takes effect!
