To the Edge with the Mayflower Autonomous Ship

 View Only
When:  Apr 15, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 10:40 AM (PT)
Learn how the Mayflower Autonomous Ship (MAS) will self-navigate across oceans, run operations 24/7, and collect and analyze large amounts of real-time data on climate and ocean health with its AI Captain powered by IBM Automation. The MAS is led by marine research organization, ProMare, with IBM acting as both lead technology partner and lead scientific partner for the project. To enable accelerated discovery that wasn't possible before, the MAS will run AI & Automation workloads on NVIDIA Jetson AGX Xavier Edge devices. MAS represents a new class of efficient, crewless and solar-powered ships, which combines new and time-tested automation technologies.

With the Mayflowers AI Captain, organizations can avoid many of the biggest dangers and costs of ocean travel related to extreme weather, crowded shipping lanes and stretched crews. Working in tandem with scientists, the new-generation Mayflower provides a flexible and cost-effective platform for deepening understanding of critical issues such as global warming, ocean plastic pollution and marine mammal conservation. The Mayflower technology can be a catalyst to positively change the maritime industry and research, while also helping drive sustainable advances in other industries.
