i think the easiest solution would be to rename the file via FileIO and change the IMAGEFILE variable of the page object accordingly.
It seems like FNP8_SetUploadMode (+ creating a copy of the imagefile witht the desired name) would be a way to make an different variable work, if you don't want to edit the imagefiles, because other steps assume the naming convention or something. But i have not used this one yet.

Hello all.
We have a datacap application that adds documents to FileNet Content Manager (P8). Each document contains one or more pages. Using multi page content elements each page of the document creates and corresponds to a content element in p8. However, the content elements are named with the standard datacap VScan naming convention (TM000001 etc).
Is there a way to control the content element naming?
