  • 1.  Cascading dropdowns in ICN and in Datacap Navigator

    Posted Fri September 13, 2024 11:48 AM

    Hi all,

We have choice elements that are hierarchical.  For the purpose of discussion,  let's use US State-County-City as the example of the hierarchy. For example, California can have LA County, San Diego Couty etc. LA County has cities such as Pomona and Torrance. The desired behavior: a user chooses California, then a list of California counties will be available to the user. If the user chooses LA County, then a list of cities within the LA County will be displayed. From the city list, the user gets to pick one.

We use ICN to search for P8 documents. I would like a user to have the cascading dropdowns to pick a city as a search key.

We use Datacap Navigator to send new documents into P8. I would like a user to pick a city from the cascading dropdowns for a document.

So how to have cascading dropdowns in ICN and Datacap Navigator?

    Thanks,

    Walter

    Hello Walter,

I believe there is no such OOTB editor that comes with ICN. You would have to go with editor plugin customization or EDS customization. Please refer below link

    Hi Ram,

Thanks for the pointer. I will need to look into it. On the first glance, I did not see it mentioned Datacap Navigator. In the web interface, there is a Verify panel. The cascading dropdown lists will need to be in that panel. Have you run across modifying that panel?

    Thanks,

    Walter

Are you looking to create a choice list of sorts to choose from in Datacap Navigator specifically with this question?

    Hi Matt,

Yes, I would like a user to go down the hierarchy and pick an item. The hierarchy itself is relatively stable. Newer items can be added over time. In the example of State-County-City, new City entries can be added. The choice list seems to be the one that should be used. In the Verify panel, it flattens the hierarch and displays all the leaf nodes at once.

    Thanks,
    Walter

Have you looked at how the choice lists are defined at the object store level (assuming you are using ICN with P8)....you can create choice lists with "sub lists". See here for more details: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/filenet-p8-platform/5.6.0?topic=documents-choice-lists

    Hi Ruth,

In an ICN search template, the use of Groups in a choice list will let a user pick the group first, then the items withing the group. That allows a user to drill down the hierarchy. This satisfies the need from the ICN side. Are you familiar with the Datacap Navigator Verify panel? In the Verify panel, the dropdown list does not have that kind of hierarchical display. The items are flattened. It looks something like Group1:Item1a, Group1:Item1b, Group2:Item2a.

    Thanks,
    Walter
