  • 1.  Datacap 9.1.7 - IBM removing ISIS standard support

    Posted Tue January 12, 2021 08:16 AM

Anybody knows why IBM stopped supporting ISIS scanning standard as from release  9.1.7?

ISIS is very common and wildly used, mainly on heavy duty scanners.

    Any suggestions?

    Hi Moshe,

We removed Datacap support in 9.1.7 and have been successful in migrating our customers to TWAIN. We have found that virtually all scanners in the market support TWAIN.

I look forward to our call tomorrow and would like to hear about an issues you've had implementing TWAIN.

Probably has to do with the fact that you have to pay for the ISIS license.

IBM may not want to pony up for a competitor's product (EMC-owned).
EMC may not want to sell to IBM.

Sounds like we're in the same situation - using ISIS now, but upgrading and having to replace it.

Have you tried going with TWAIN drivers?
If so, what issues have you encourtered?

Why IBM Datacap MUST support ISIS?

    1.       All heavy duty scanners (high level such as Kodak 4000/3000, Panasonic 4650) – support both

    2.       However, all our customers are using VRS (by Kofax)) for Bar-Code recognition and for improving image quality and VRS support only ISIS

    3.       We can't change the customer setup for ISIS as the scanner may be used for other applications, not only Datacap

    4.       TWAIN seems slower vs. ISIS on heavy duty

    5.       Who will pay for this migration to TWAIN?

Your item #3 reminded me of our future sticking point.  We also share scanners with another application that is using Kofax.  The scanners have built-in Kofax cards as well as another interface for TWAIN support.  I'm pretty sure our imaging lab will be swapping cables every time they switch between applications.

The reinstatement of ISIS support would be welcome.

    Robert,

We are working on enabling ISIS in Datacap. If you are able to help us do some testing on Datacap and ISIS, please reach out to me at tod@ibm.com.

    Thanks!
