Error: This application is not supported on custom DPI/scaling configurations

  • 1.  Error: This application is not supported on custom DPI/scaling configurations

I know that problem descriptions starting with 'sometimes' are a pain 😏 but here we go:
sometimes I am getting an error "This application is not supported on custom DPI/scaling configurations" while running a script, for instance when executing findWindow.
The weird thing is that I am not always getting this although my script hasn't changed. I also noticed that when I sign out of my workstation and log on again, I am not getting the error anymore and my script is working fine for a while.

Any ideas what can cause this problem? I don't know if it relevant but I am connecting to my workstation using Remote Desktop and I am not using custom scaling in Windows.

    Hello!

Sorry for the delayed response. We typically see this issue when the zoom on your display settings are not set to 100% or when there is a second monitor that could be attached to the machine.

Take a look at the display settings and make sure they are set to 100%. That should fix your issue.

    Hi Ryan

Thanks for your reply. I already had checked my display settings and I am not using a second monitor. The thing is that this error is only recurring randomly: like I mentioned in my original post, the bot runs fine several times (in the same RDP session) and suddenly I am getting the error.

    Hi Nordine,
When we connect to a machine via RDP, Windows makes several changes in the way it works, compared to a local connection, it changes the Console user session (default) to RDP #, and with that, it treats the graphical environment differently, taking settings from the local machine and using it on the remote machine, stopping updating the graphical environment if the RDP screen is minimized, among others. Therefore, whenever you connect to a machine via RDP, use the IBM RPA AlwaysOn feature to disconnect from it.

On this machine that you access via RDP, are you running the bot via Studio or Scheduling?
If you start the bot through Studio, to test its execution, you can log out using the IBM RPA, Always On feature, which closes your connection to the machine but does not close the user's session on the local machine.
If you are running by Schedule, you can use the 'Attach To Runtime / Schedule' feature, if you have configured VNC it is even possible to view the machine's screen while debugging the running script.

    Hi Angelo

The IBM RPA AlwayOn feature seems to be missing in my environment (IBM RPA 20.12.5). I also don't have an IBM RPA icon in my systray.

    Hey,

Try to restart the "IBM Robotic Process Automation Agent" service.

    Hi Angelo

after restarting the service, the IBM RPA icon appeared in my systray. But after restarting the workstation, the icon is not showing while the service is running and I successfully launched Studio. Restarting the service shows the icon again. That is fine by me, but I thought that it would be useful to mention here because it seems like a bug to me.

    Hi Nordine

Yes, thank you, I'll open a bug.

    Hey,

what of the suggested actions has fixed the issue? I am now having the same problem, but only when I use the Launcher. However, I have it all the time and not only occasionally. If I use the Studio, it works within the same RDP session.

    Thank you

    Hi Jan,

Still no solution for this issues. Luckily, in my case it is happening infrequently and only with RPA Studio.
