Many of my customers are referring to the Fragile development method. This is because in many organizations, well meaning folks are getting caught up in the mechanism and not focusing on the target. It's an easy, and all to common, trap to fall into. This behavior has also been increased by the gradual conversion of Project Managers into Project Administrators. The person's title hasn't changed, but their role has. PMs used to be responsible for delivering the project. Now they're responsible for reporting on the delivery and so focus has necessarily shifted from results to process.
This is not to say that Agile is bad or that everyone is getting it wrong. That is absolutely not the case. It's just that a certain number of folks are getting it very wrong. Amongst my colleagues, there is pretty widespread agreement that we see this a lot.
I'd love to hear other peoples thoughts and experiences. It's never the tool, it's always how you use the tool.
