Key ingredients of a telecom network cloud transformation journey, an HCL & IBM perspective

A universal concern in the Communications Service Provider (CSP) industry is the commoditization of connectivity – a trend that drives the CSP business towards a utility with a stable customer base, low but stable margins, and main focus on return on capital assets and operations cost. In this model, higher value and margins shift to content and application providers – who, in turn, benefit from strong platform effects.

Network modernization – specifically through Network Function Virtualization (NFV), or network cloudification – provides some fundamental capabilities that allow CSPs to move up the value chain. The core idea in NFV is to make the network a software-defined platform leading to a better capex and opex profile than traditional networks – and generating revenue streams through new services on a "programmable" network.

Join HCL & IBM as we explore the need for an open, standardized horizontal network cloud platform design led by DevOps rigor, service-specific Automations and AI led operations (development and operations) in order to help CSPs gain network capex productivity, Opex improvements and new revenue from existing and emerging services like 5G.
